Visit a Winery on Lake Garda
The Lake Garda area is surrounded by vineyards and wineries that offer many possibilities to visit and taste the typical local wines. You can easily combine a visit to a winery with other activities like hikes or water sports on the beautiful lake. The region is known for the famous Amarone red wine but it also has a wide range of different white wines such as Lugana and Valtenesi.
The presence of vines on the hills around the lake has been documented since the Bronze Age. In the prehistoric sites of Peschiera, Pacengo and Cisano archaeologists found grape seeds. Vine cultivation and production continued during the Roman era and later in rural villas and monasteries that rose around the lake. Today vineyards and well-kept olive groves characterize the landscape of the lakeside.
There are two main wine regions on the south and west shores of the Lake Garda, Lugana and Valtenesi. Lugana specializes in white wines such as Turbiana and Garganega. Its soil is rich in minerals and the characteristic Lugana style is fresh, fruity and elegant.
Custoza, a sparkling wine, is named after the village of the same name that is located on the southern shore of the lake. The Cavalchina family owns the vineyard that produces this wine and has a second-story tasting room overlooking the beautiful vineyards where Garganega, Fernanda and other varieties grow. The winery produces a metodo classico Garda DOC made of Chardonnay and the Cuvee Maison, a blend of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Corvina that spends 12 months on lees to produce a dry, herbaceous spumante with a refreshing salinity. wine lake garda
