Flat Head Socket Screws
Flat Head Socket Screws
Socket screws, also known as Allen head screws or Hex screws, offer a middle ground between the increased performance features of nut and bolt systems and the convenience and ease of use offered by standard format screw sets. They are a type of screw with an internal, hex drive built into the head, allowing them to be tightened and removed with the use of a hex wrench (Allen wrench) rather than a standard screwdriver. They are a particularly good choice when there isn’t sufficient clearance for the installation of a traditional nut and bolt, or to manoeuvre an externally wrenched hex screw system.
Available with either a flat, or a cup or cone head, these screws sit flush or imbedded into the materials to which they are fastened and can be installed and removed with little fuss using a simple Hex Key/Allen Wrench. They are a particular favourite in applications where the head of the fastener must be hidden or obscured from view, such as in furniture manufacturing and automotive engineering.
They are manufactured from either alloy or stainless steel with a black oxide, or zinc finish and can be purchased in coarse or fine thread options, as well as in metric sizes. They are some of the strongest (link to Tensile Strength and Torque Specification Chart) screws available and have a smaller individual size than other hex fasteners, which allows more of them to be fitted in the same space without compromising on overall strength or structural integrity.
